Kill Confirmed on MW3...

I'm still playing, but not as much, my College Algebra class is taking a lot of my time during this summer semester and I'm playing much less, down from 2 or 3 hours a day to 2 or 3 hours a week...ugh.

I've also started watching Being Human (the UK version), I'm through season 1 and have really enjoyed it, I need something to watch until the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones come back on.

All Good Things

All good things must come to an end, including another enjoyable semester with Professor Howell.  I have thoroughly enjoyed myself, and have learned some things that may actually change the way I communicate on the world wide web.  As enjoyable as it was though, it was tough, five papers in a semester is a lot, maybe too much for me as a writer. I felt like my papers would've been better given more time.  My classmates were pleasant and encouraging, that helped me get through the grind of writing what seemed to be an insurmountable number of papers at the beginning.  Thanks to everyone for such a fun semester in ENG111.

I Am Juggernaut!

I was going to post this yesterday, but the encoding settings and size of the YouTube upload (almost 4GBs) took the upload well into the night and past midnight...sheesh, 6 freaking hours just to upload.  This was a fun MW3 episode where I got a care package for a Juggernaut, a kind of super soldier in MW3, but they are really slow, too slow, I like to run and gun, which is just impossible while weighed down with all that armor, I hate that about them..  It was fun nonetheless, even though most of the time I was just running (or walking it seemed because of the speed of the Juggernaut) trying to find enemies to kill.  I get the Juggernaut at about the 2:00 mark.

Must See Movie

I'm not your average guy when it comes to humor, so others may think this looks stupid, but stupid is funny to me...sometimes.  That said, I will definitely be seeing The Dictator, I was a huge fan of Ali G, so this will be right up my alley.

Old Man Hands

My old man hands are still doin' their thing.  I am a little over a month into my switch from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to Modern Warfare 3 and am loving it.  The depth of the game (kill streak rewards, gun variety, etc.) has me hooked, and the speed of the gameplay has me wanting to improve to keep up with the youngins and all their smack talk.  I finally broke the 30 kill barrier in a game beasting on some kids, some probably half or even one third my age, these old man hands aren't ready to pass the torch on to the next generation...not just yet, not when I can still do what I do, beast on n00bs.  This mode of gameplay is called Kill Confirmed and I like it better than the other types like Team Deathmatch, because there is less camping (staying in one spot all game). In Kill Confirmed you have to not only kill someone, but someone on your team has to pick up their dog tags for you to score points for your team.  It does no good to just snipe someone from long range if there is no one there on your team to get the tags.

TV

I am a very happy camper right now, and no, I don't mean Modern Warfare 3.  All of my favorite shows are back on just in time to hold me over during The Walking Dead off season, Community, Eastbound and Down, Game of Thrones, and Modern Family, just to name a few.  The only problem is that now I have these shows in addition to my gaming addiction to keep my mind off of school work...not good, at least for my grades.  I really need to focus during these last few weeks of classes or I might end up with a B or two, and <gasp> maybe even a C...ouch.

Also, here's a funny clip about one of my favorite shows of all time, LOST, it's old, but still makes me laugh years later.

Modern Warfare Weekend

STEAM had Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer available for free this weekend and I thought I would check out the newest installment of a series I hadn't played in a while.  The last games in the Call of Duty series I played were Modern Warfare and World at War a few years ago.  My son plays MW2 online with his friends and likes it, so I bought that this weekend ( $4.99 on Amazon) and decided to try out the MW3 free weekend with him as well.  It was really fun and contradicted a lot of things that I had heard about it that had kept me away for so long. First I played MW2 with my son running some of the Spec Ops missions.  Then I did one myself, the gameplay is a bit different than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ( the only other FPS series that I play) but in the end they are actually quite similar.

Literary Term

I listened, I learned, but something just wasn't right, something was missing.  What seemed, on the surface, to be a complete list of literary terms had me thinking.  Although I was sure of it, I didn't want to ask in class.  That feeling I had incessantly nagged at me, even after arriving home. At that point I knew what had to be done.  Asinine as it may seem, I took it upon myself to make this my very own, somewhat comedic English 111 vision quest. Lesser men (and women) may have wavered, but realizing that a peaceful night's sleep was at stake I pressed on against incredibly ominous, insurmountable odds.  The specter of impending doom washed over me as I slumped into my chair.  It was now or never, at least for this night's sleep.  My mind totally blank, I stared at the incandescent glow of the LCD.  A coherent description of it in layman's terms escaped me and my focus went by the wayside.  My thoughts and concentration wandered, a myriad of bookmarks beckoned, this was becoming another in a long line of lost causes.  Not even five minutes in and I needed a break, lifting myself from my seat I retrieved my backpack and produced 20 ounces of immortality, Coke Zero.  My thirst quenched, I headed back to complete what seemed to be an impossible task just a few minutes before.  The tedious task of encoding erratic thoughts into a stream of keystrokes that can produce a plethora of recursive results from everyone's best friend, Google. It is starting to become very clear to me as I type that I have found the words necessary to sleep tonight, to put an end to this real life Grammarian vision quest.  It's late, class has been over for three hours now, yet I'm still struggling to literally put this topic to bed.  Finally, the exhausting  trials and tribulations of my crude Google search bear fruit with pages upon pages of results.  Every fiber of my being is rife with anticipation as I scan the first, then second page of results.  I'm not disappointed, I've found it and would be remiss to not readily admit that my Google-Fu skills are strong, very strong indeed.  Acrostic, read it (again) and weep.

Is an acrostic a literary term?

Stress Management

Stress is just simply a part of life.  There's no way to totally eliminate it, at least not that I'm aware of.  Because of this, my key to being happy and content is how I manage the stress that I can control, and to find an outlet for stress that I can't.  My method of stress relief is to take all the frustration, aggression, and bad intentions built up throughout the day/week and channels it into a release with no catastrophic real world consequences...gaming.  You may be asking yourself, "aren't you, as a 40 something year old adult, too old for such childish indulgences?  Isn't gaming just for kids?"  As prevalent as that assumption is, there are a great many of us older (I actually prefer to use the term "mature") gamers out there, especially in the PC gaming world.  So when I refer to myself gaming to relieve stress, I don't necessarily mean the infinitely more popular and publicized console wars waged between the countless gaggles of feckless teens, flocking obsessively to the game du jour, but I digress.  I could go on for days about the demographic differences between PC and console gamers, but that will have to be for another blog.

Social Media

I have a facebook account (actually two) and just don't understand the obsession some people have with it.  I understand that on the surface that may sound somewhat disingenuous considering that I have not only one, but two facebook accounts, but I have my reasons.  My second account is for my internet gaming personna

To Be Completely Honest

This is probably going to be my last English class, at least for a while.  Passing ENG111 will meet my English requirement for the Certification program (Network Administrator) I am currently interested, and enrolled in.  I wanted to make sure I got prof. Howell this semester because I'm comfortable with his teaching style, it not only keeps me awake, but involved and interested in class as well.  During the semester I hope to break some of the bad habits in written and verbal communication that I have developed after years of laziness and indifference.  The older I get, the more I am starting to realize the importance of effective communication.
